Translation

9Let love be without pretense. Hatea what is evil, be devoted to what is good. 10Show family affection to one another in brotherly love; show the way to one another in respect. 11Be not negligent in eagerness; be aglow with the Spirit; serve the Lord.b 12Rejoice in hope; be steadfast in affliction; be persistent in prayer. 13Share in the needsc of the saints; aspire to hospitality.

14Bless those who persecute you,d blesse and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice;f weep with those who weep. 16Live in harmony among yourselves; do not cherish proud thoughts but associate with the lowly. Be not wise in your own estimation. 17Repay no one evil for evil; take into consideration what is nobleg in the sight of all. 18If possible, so far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19Do not take your own revenge, beloved, but give opportunity for God’s wrath; for it is written,

“Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

20Buth if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him to drink;

for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.

21Do not be overcome by what is bad, but overcome the bad with the good.
